China Palace

Plaza de España

On the southern side of the Spain Square there is another singular building known as the “China Palace”. It was built in 1928 at the expense of a famous textile trader, Bartolomé Gil “The Chinese” to house a department store.

If you look at the tiles, the extensions in china on top of the terraces, the openings with a Mudejar feel about them and the balconies with galleries, the building reminds us of the architecture from Seville at the beginning of the 20th century, of which we can find the maximum expression on the Plaza de España in Seville.
